The History of
Rehoboth
In late July 2007, a COGIC congregation in Western Maryland was found without a church home. The late Bishop D.W. Spann, Sr. sent the then Elder William E. McMillan, Jr. out to investigate the matter and update him on the status of the membership. After fulfilling his assignment and much prayer, Elder McMillan met with Bishop Spann and shared the vision that the Lord had given him for a new ministry.
Following a few meetings with the saints in Frederick and Baltimore, Elder McMillan began having Bible Studies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in his home and the homes of his founding members in Baltimore and Frederick, Maryland. During the Greater Maryland Jurisdiction Holy Convocation in 2007, Bishop Spann appointed Elder McMillan as Pastor of Rehoboth Ministries COGIC.
The first service for Rehoboth Ministries was held in Mt. Airy, Maryland at the West Falls CC Church. There were sixty-five people in attendance waiting for a move from God. The newly appointed Pastor McMillan preached from Genesis 26:22 with the subject, “How Did We Get Here?”. The presence of the Lord filled the church and souls were delivered and set free.
Rehoboth only remained there for six weeks and during that time, Pastor McMillan continued to seek the Lord for a sanctuary that the fledgling church body could call their own. He sought the Lord for a location between Baltimore and Frederick. The Lord blessed and provided room for Rehoboth and the church moved to 15950 North Avenue in Lisbon, Maryland. On October 7, 2007, the first service in the new building was held.
In April 2008, Bishop J.H. Lyles, Jr. officially installed Pastor McMillan as the pastor of Rehoboth Ministries COGIC and the church continued to experience great spiritual and numerical growth, reaping the blessings of the Lord daily. However, in August 2011, the Lord spoke to Pastor McMillan, saying, “Your season here is over. Now go to where the souls are.” In obedience to God, Pastor McMillan led Rehoboth Ministries to our current location, 4423 Pimlico Road in West Baltimore. The first service was held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, and approximately 100 were in attendance. Pastor McMillan preached from Matthew 12:1-6 with the subject, “The Glory of the Lord is in This Place”.
Since then, Pastor McMillan was elevated to the office of Bishop in the Church of God in Christ and Rehoboth has experienced renovation and renewal. We are blessed and continue to press towards the mark of the high calling which is in Christ. We are continuing to build the family of God by reaching the downtrodden and broken in our community. We are working fervently to win souls to the Kingdom.
